I want to be technologically awesome!

How awesome would it be if I could do everything? Ok ok, I know I can't do EVERYTHING, but pertaining to technology, yes, I would love too! Click on this link real fast before reading further so you can get a dose of what exactly I'm talking about: http://mrboyersclass.pbworks.com/.

Mr. Boyer's Classroom Wiki is beyond anything I thought possible with the click of a mouse. It isn't just a website. It isn't just a blog. It is, as the Professor pointed out, "The Cadillac of Wikis". And I would most certainly have to agree! The amount of effort that has to be put into something like this shows an amazing amount of dedication that I'm afraid my lack of patience would quickly eclipse. But being able to see a truly impressive way of molding and shaping technology to showcase your classroom is outstanding. You get a glimpse of the out-of-the-box projects he has his students do, lessons that can be shared with teachers around the world, and useful applications where students can present and display their work and activities. Honestly, can there BE anything bad about that??? Uhhhh, I think not.

After viewing this wiki, it doesn't take much for you to want to have one of your own. At first, I will admit, I was skeptical at best with the whole idea of using a public forum such as a wiki or blog to display this sort of information. But once again I have been proven wrong, or at least, persuaded to the other side . . . a little bit.

  1. I too looked at Mr. Boyer's class wiki. He takes the use of wikis above and beyond. At first, I was intimidated by his awesomeness. However, after spending most of my time in class playing with the backgrounds, graphics, and other components of gloger, I fell in love. It is like scrap booking online. Setting up a wiki like that is like setting up a classroom--as fun or as tedious as you want to make it, while paying close attention to detail and purpose.

  3. You and I share the same concern. Mr.Boyer's wiki is really outstanding. I wish I could say that I will do one just as equally amazing, but I don't know how to find the time and be that tech savvy to accomplish such an awesome wiki for my students! Regardless of how time consuming creating a forum such as this may be, I too am gradually changing my mind about blogs and Wikis.

  4. I, too, was impressed by Mr. Boyer's Wiki. I had no idea a wiki could even look like that! Unfortunately for me, I am technologically impaired, and probably incapable of reproducing a wiki that would come anywhere near Mr. Boyer's talent. But he sure is an inspiration to make me want to learn more about setting up a wiki.

  5. I agree with Iman about probably not being able to even reach the "awesomeness" (Allie) of Mr. Boyer's Wiki. It inspires me too and I wish I could be just like him. I think this is a great motivational and creative outlet for students. I think if the wiki is done carefully then a public forum like this can do wonders for students!

  6. "intimidated by his awesomeness"

I will definitely remember that one! :-)

Everything takes time. You will get an overview of alot of technology tools and examples in this class. From that you will choose what interests you and what will be useful in your classroom. Then you will practice and tinker with the tools you choose, and use them responsibly with students. You'll get better and better.

Soon, your work will be awesome!
